About Mike May, your local Plumber & Gasfitter

Mike is a Central Otago local, having grown up in Wanaka. He completed his apprenticeship in Dunedin, gaining experience in commercial buildings, executive residences and maintenance work. He was awarded the highest-ever aggregate trade exam results in New Zealand during his apprenticeship. The pull of home couldn’t keep him away, and he started his own business in Cromwell in 1996 servicing the Southern Lakes Districts.

Mike May Plumbing & Gas is very much a family-owned and operated business, with Mike’s wife and business partner, Andrea, managing the administration side of the business. Their son, Broc, is now into his second year of his apprenticeship within the firm.

The local community is at the heart of May Plumbing & Gas, Mike was the only certifying gasfitter in the district for many years, carrying out a large percentage of the installations on homes and businesses in the area. Having grown the business to around ten or so staff and a few apprentices, the business is supporting local families who are raising their children here, attending the local schools and supporting local businesses, Support Local and loyalty is very important to May Plumbing & Gas.

Over the years, Mike and the team have completed many thousands of new homes from small cottages and family homes to award-winning architectural executive residences, whether people are choosing to move or holiday in beautiful Central Otago.
